Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam FC delivered a perfect start to the 2018 AFC Futsal Club Championships as they demolished Jeonju MAG FC, the reigning champions of the Republic of Korea, with a commanding score of 10-1 in their Group B opener on August 1.

The Vietnamese representatives took absolute control of the match, leading by two goals in the first half thanks to Minh Tri (2’) and Roberto Tobe (13’), before scoring eight more after the break, owing to Duc Hoa (22’), Altawail (25’, 37’), Minh Tri (26’), Duc Tung (28’), Van Vu (29’), Ngoc Son (34’) and That Phi (39’).

The consolation goal for the Jeonju MAG side was scored by Choy Byunggirl in the 21stminute.

The resounding win puts Thai Son Nam FC on top of Group B’s provisional standings with two points and a nine-goal difference over Naft Al-Wasat of Iraq and Al-Dhafrah FC of the United Arab Emirates, who played out a 1-1 draw in the other Group B match the same day.

Next up for the Vietnamese team will be an encounter against Naft Al-Wasat on August 3.


Ton That Phi contributes one goal in his international debut for Thai Son Nam FC.

The ninth annual AFC Futsal Club Championship is taking place in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, between from August 1 to 12.

A total of 16 clubs are competing in a single round robin format in four groups to decide the top two performers from each group that will advance into the quarterfinals.

In last year’s tournament, Thai Son Nam FC settled for third place overall after beating Al Rayyan FC of Qatar 6-1 in the bronze medal play-off. Thailand’s Chonburi Bluewave FC were crowned the overall champions following a final 3-2 win over Giti Pasand Isfahan FC of Iran.
