Spain’s Carla Suarez Navarro celebrated her 30th birthday in style at the US Open on Monday by beating Russian Maria Sharapova 6-4 6-3 to book her place in the quarter-finals.

Sharapova, the 2006 champion, had never lost a night session match in New York prior to her first Grand Slam meeting with Suarez Navarro, but the five-times Grand Slam champion paid the price for 38 unforced errors and won less than half of her first serve points while committing eight double faults. Sharapova succumbed in one hour and 31 minutes.

* Andy Murray will miss Britain's Davis Cup playoff tie against Uzbekistan in Glasgow to focus on his rehabilitation following hip surgery. The former world number one returned to best-of-five-set tennis for the first time in 14 months at the U.S. Open last week but, after hobbling to defeat in the second round, he decided to skip the Sept. 14-16 World Group playoff tie.

* Juan Carlos Osorio, who guided Mexico to the last 16 of this year's World Cup in Russia, has been appointed as coach of Paraguay, the South American country's football association said on Monday. The 57-year-old has coached club sides in his native Colombia, Mexico, Brazil and the United States. He was appointed Mexico coach in 2015 and stood down after the World Cup.

* Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson signed a new long-term contract with the Premier League leaders on Monday. Henderson has emerged as a key figure under Reds boss Jurgen Klopp and the new deal is a reward for the England midfielder's fine form. The 28-year-old has made 283 appearances for Liverpool, scoring 24 goals, since arriving from Sunderland in 2011.

* France will return to the football pitch for the first time since being crowned World Cup champions without their captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris when they face a Germany team looking to recover from their humiliating early exit in Russia. France coach Didier Deschamps said the injured Lloris would be replaced on Thursday by Montpellier's Benjamin Lecomte.

* Tottenham Hotspur will play all their Champions League group matches at Wembley as they continue to wait for the move into their new stadium, the Premier League club said on Monday. Spurs were initially scheduled to play their first game at the new 62,000-capacity White Hart Lane venue on Sep 15 against Liverpool but safety issues meant they switched the game along with the next home fixture to Wembley.

* The Danish Football Association (DBU) is looking for replacements for regular national team players for this month's matches against Slovakia and Wales after contract negotiations broke down. If the DBU fails to recruit players for the games, Denmark, who are ninth in the FIFA world rankings and reached the last 16 at this year's World Cup, could face expulsion from the 2020 European Championship.

* Former Brazil striker Ronaldo has become the majority stakeholder in Spanish La Liga team Real Valladolid after buying 51 per cent of the club from president Carlos Suarez. The former Barcelona and Real Madrid forward paid around 30 million euros, according to Spanish media reports.

The International Yoga Day in Hoa Binh province

In the morning of June 30th, at Hoa Binh Square, the Provincial People's Committee coordinated with the Indian Embassy in Hanoi to organize the International Yoga Day in Hoa Binh province in 2024. There was the attendance of Mr. Bui Duc Hinh, the Deputy Secretary of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Chairman of the Provincial People's Council and the leaders of a number of the appropriate departments, branches, unions... Recently, the martial artists from our province left a lasting impression at the 2024 Northern Vovinam Championship organized by the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Nam Dinh Province in collaboration with the Sports Department (Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism) and the Vietnam Vovinam Federation. This championship has attracted the participation of over 300 athletes and coaches from 13 delegations representing various provinces and cities in the Northern region. The participants competed in 73 categories, including martial arts performances and sparring.
