France’s Kevin Mayer set a new decathlon world record on Sunday when he finished with 9126 points at the Decastar event in Talence, France. He threw a personal best of 71.90 metres in the javelin, Sunday’s penultimate event, then finished the decisive 1,500 metres in four minutes 36.11 seconds, having needed to clock 4:49 to break the record.

* Britain's Lewis Hamilton eased to victory from pole position at the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday as the Mercedes driver extended his championship lead over Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel to 40 points with six rounds remaining.

* Spain's Mario Mola clinched his third straight World Triathlon Series men's title after finishing second in the final race on the Gold Coast in Australia on Sunday. Frenchman Vincent Luis won the race in 1:44:34, 14 seconds ahead of Mola, while South Africa's Richard Murray finished third.

* West Ham United beat Everton 3-1 at Goodison Park on Sunday to secure their first Premier League points of the season as Marco Silva tasted defeat for the first time as Everton manager.
