(HBĐT) - According to the Kim Boi People's Committee, the district is hard hit by landslides due to its terrain of long mountain ranges interwoven with valleys, rivers and streams, mostly in Tu Son, Du Sang, Binh Son, Thuong Tien, Dong Bac, Hop Dong, Vinh Dong, Ha Bi, End Ha, Lap Choc and Sao Bay communes.

Massive landslides often occur along the road from Binh Son commune to Du Sang commune, and Doc Lac commune in Ky Son district, and the road from Hop Kim to Tan Thanh, from Cho intersection to Doi Kim intersection, causing danger to commuters and vehicles.

Residents in Vinh Dong commune, Kim Boi district strengthen stream banks, actively preventing landslides during rainy season 2019.

Additionally, Ca river basin, Lo Loi stream in Hop Dong commune and Chanh Tren hamlet area in Vinh Dong commune are one of the areas hard hit by flash floods. Over the past years, flood and inundation have been quite common in communes of Hop Dong, Kim Son, Kim Boi, Kim Truyen, Cuoi Ha and those located in the south of the district like Nam Thuong, Sao Bay and My Hoa.

Before this year’s flood season, Kim Boi district checked and estimated that 79 households in seven communes will be relocated, including seven in Mo Doi and Ha Bi communes and 72 in Cuoi Ha, Vinh Tien, Tu Son, Hung Tien, Nuong Dam, Kim Boi, Ha Bi communes (some households in Cuoi Ha commune are subject to concentrated resettlement, but the resettlement area has yet to be built so they are living in dangerous area).

In order to mitigate damage caused by natural disasters, the Kim Boi district People's Committee issued a plan to cope with heavy rains, floods, landslides, tornadoes, droughts, storms and tropical depressions in late March. It also issued guideline documents and formed an inspection team on the work.

Under close and regular directions by the district People's Committee and the Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue, the People's Committees of communes and towns in the district have actively checked and discovered areas highly prone to floods and landslides since early this year. Competent agencies and units sped up the construction, repair, upgrade and reinforcement of disaster prevention and rural traffic works, dredged canals and sluices while checking lake and dam works, strengthening areas in need of evacuation and temporary shelter areas to ensure the safety of the people’s lives and assets.

The district authorities directed repairing and replacing warning signs, reviewing and supplementing measures to prepare for heavy rains, floods, landslides and whirlwinds, especially pooling resources to install equipment.

The district is now ready with resources in case of contingencies, including the committees on natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue of the district, communes, towns, search and rescue force, and medical staff. Materials and equipment for the effort include 36 automobiles, 440 life jackets, 226 loudspeakers, 500 bamboo trees, 600 steel nets, 3,000 sand bags, 150,000 tonnes of sand, stones and gravel, 900 litres of drinking water, 200 cartons of instant noodle packets, packed food portions and necessary medical devices.

The district committee on natural disaster prevention and control and search and rescue together with authorities of communes and towns are raising public awareness of solutions to coping with disasters./.
