(HBO) - At the beginning of 2017, Yen Lac commune (Yen Thuy) had 71% of the people participating in the health insurance. In particular, the Women's Union of the commune has 1,065 members belonging to 9 branches, but only 40% of members have taken part in the health insurance.

Realizing the need to increase the coverage of the health insurance among the members, the Women's Union of Yen Lac commune have focused on implementing Plan No. 23, April 19, 2017 of the Women's Union of Yen Thuy district on building the model "Encouraging the women to save money for buying the health insurance for the family health.” Accordingly, they have established a pilot model at the Women's Union of Lac Vuong village in June 2017.

The staff of the Women's Union of Yen Lac commune (Yen Thuy) are introducing to the female members how to participate in the health insurance in accordance with the Law on the Health Insurance.

The pilot model at the Women's Union in Lac Vuong village has increased from 16 participants at the beginning to 27 members so far. By the end of 2018, the model was replicated to 100% of the branches of the hamlets with a total of 221 members.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Khanh Phuong, the Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Yen Lac commune says: "The establishment of a model has received a high consensus of the Party Committee and the local authorities and the response of numerous members. The branch has set up their own operation regulations, having meetings once every one or three months. Each member contributes at least 50,000 VND a month. With that donation, each branch has the average of 1 - 1.2 million VND per month. The assigned target is that each branch buys at least 1 card a month for members with the insurance premium of 100%. The board of the model management is responsible for collecting money, directly buying cards and then issuing to the members. Those who are in difficult or sick are given priority to buy the card in advance, the rest will be in turn to limit the card to each member.

After 2 years of operation, there were 216/221 members of the model were allowed to buy the health insurance (reaching 97.7%). In addition, the Women's Union of the commune has mobilized its members to save money to give cards to the members with difficult circumstances, at least 2 cards a branch every year with an average of 18 given cards a year. With that effort, the proportion of women members of the commune participating in the health insurance has increased to over 70%, contributing to the increase of the coverage of health insurance in the whole commune to 86.1%.
