(HBO) – In implementing the national strategy on gender equality for the 2011-20 period approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 2351/QD-TTg dated December 24, 2010, the Hoa Binh provincial People’s Committee has ordered departments, sectors and organisations to implement the strategy in an effective manner, and create favourable opportunities for both men and women in all fields.

Due attention has been given to the first goal set in the strategy, which is to strengthen women’s participation in management and leadership positions, towards gradually reduce the gender gap in politics.

In the 2016-21 term, the province has two female deputies in the National Assembly, 12 female deputies of the total 61 members of the provincial People’s Council, or 19.67 percent.

As many as 101 women made onto the list of 383 members of district-level People’s Councils, accounting for 26.37 percent, while there were 1,252 women among the total 5,230 members of communal-level People’s Councils, equal to 23.94 percent.

In the previous tenure, there were five women among members of the provincial Party Committee, a 9.6 percent ratio; and 69 women out of the total 481 members of district-level Party Committees (14.3 percent).

Meanwhile, 17 out of 135 members of standing boards of district-level Party Committees (12.5 percent). The ratio was 19.9 percent in communal-level Party Committees (945 women out of the total 4,741); and 6.9 percent in standing boards of communal-level Party Committees (58 women out of the total 830).

The total number of women holding leading and managerial positions under the management of the provincial Party Committee was 49 out of 317, making up 15.45 percent. The figure was 29 out of 169 at the provincial level, or 17.15 percent.

In the 2015-20, there were 30 women holding positions as heads or vice heads of provincial departments and sectors, while five women were key leaders at district level. The number of women holding leading positions of sections at provincial departments is 220, and 208 at district departments.

To promote gender equality in politics in the 2021-30, Party committees of all levels, local administrations, the provincial Fatherland Front and political mass organizations will push ahead with the implementation of Resolution 17-NQ/TU dated January 12, 2015 of the provincial Party Committee’s Standing Board on the female personnel work in Hoa Binh during 2015-20.

The province will also bolster communication work to raise awareness of women officials’ role and related issues.

Building female personnel plans as part of the personnel plans of Party organizations at all levels and in all sectors and localities is also high on the agenda, along with reviewing, supplementing and amending personnel plans to ensure quality and ratio of women in the plans, and training for female members of the Party./.
