Singapore and India signed a naval pact at defence ministerial talks in New Delhi on November 29 and vowed to tackle terrorism by enhancing security cooperation.

Addressing a joint press conference with his Singaporean counterpart Ng Eng Hen after the talks, Indian Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the two countries endeavour to tackle transnational threats, in particular the menace of international terrorism.

For his part, Ng Eng Hen asserted the importance of eliminating terrorism through strengthening bilateral security ties.

He revealed that India and Singapore have decided on the approach to issues like terrorism and maritime security.

A joint statement released after the talks said that both defence ministers reaffirmed the importance of maintaining freedom of navigation and trade consistent with international law.

Singapore and India signed a defence cooperation agreement in 2015.
