(HBO) – The first Da River fish and shrimp festival, the agricultural fair and exhibition of OCOP products of the northern midland and mountainous area in 2023 were jointly held by the provincial People’s Committee and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

This is a bold step of the locality to improve aquaculture and the processing of aquatic products in tandem with eco-tourism development, according to Director of the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Huy Nhuan.

An array of fascinating activities were arranged within the framework of the festival, including a fish worshipping ritual and flower-shaped lantern floating on the Da River, an exhibition of the Muong ethnic quintessence of traditional culture and cuisine, an exhibition of local specialties and OCOP products, an auction of staple fish, a fishing contest at Hoa Binh Lake, and an introduction of Hoa Binh’s potential, strengths, landscapes and traditional cultural straits.

The event served as a catalyst to lure visitors from far and wide to Hoa Binh province, develop local aquaculture, and affirm Hoa Binh brand of Da River shrimp and fish which helps build them into an economic spearhead of Hoa Binh province.

Additionally, it created an opportunity for stakeholders to enhance economic exchange and trade promotion for their agricultural products and to seek partners so as to promote the development of the agricultural sector.

Hoa Binh province, a gate way of the northwestern region to the capital city of Hanoi, is bestowed with a wide range of gorgeous landscapes, and boasts a kaleidoscope of traditional ethnic cultures. The province has huge potential to branch out aquaculture and eco and community-based tourism.

Over the recent years, it has prioritised resources for green, digital and circular economic development on the base of local strengths and competitive advantages.

Agriculture has affirmed its role as a pillar of local economy, with many high-quality products. As many as 123 OCOP products have been developed in Hoa Binh, 24 of which have received four-star rating, and many others eligible to break into fastidious markets such as Japan, the Republic of Korea, the UK, the EU, and the US.

Over the past years, the agricultural sector has focused on developing fish farming area in line with VietGAP standard, working to build farming area codes to serve export purpose, preserving stable fish with high quality and value, applying advanced technology into aquaculture in accordance with environmental protection.

Furthermore, aquaculture has been encouraged to develop in tandem with eco-tourism and education activities.
