(HBO) - Most toilets in schools in Yen Thuy district have not met sanitation standards due to the lack of investment and attention from the local authority.
There are 185 toilets for students and
teachers in schools in Yen Thuy district. Of them, 77 meet standards, while 54 are
degraded; 26, semi-permanent; and 28, temporary. From that fact, the authority
of Yen Thuy district has proposed to build 82 new toilets and upgrade 32 others.

In fact, it has recorded positive changes of the quality of toilets for
students in schools in Yen Thuy, but there are still limitations. The main
reason is due to improper construction, degradation, and poor awareness of hygiene
among students, especially those at secondary and high schools.
Additionally, some schools have not paid due attention to the issue so there is
no inspection and management.
Bui Thi Hoa, in Lac Thinh commune said her son is currently studying at Lac
Thinh primary school, which was built in 1998. The school has hundreds of students
but it has only one semi-permanent toilet and one temporary toilet with a total
area of more than 20 sq.m.
Parents are very concerned about this situation because many schools do not
have toilets.
According to survey data at main schools, there are still four schools that
have no toilets for students; and three others have no toilets for teachers.
Bui Huy Trong, deputy head of the district’s Education and Training Division, said
the lack of standard toilets is a problem in many schools in Yen Thuy district.
It is necessary to build 82 new toilets and upgrade 32 others in the coming
time, he added./.
