In fact, it has recorded positive changes of the quality of toilets for students in schools in Yen Thuy, but there are still limitations. The main reason is due to improper construction, degradation, and poor awareness of hygiene among students, especially those at secondary and high schools.

Additionally, some schools have not paid due attention to the issue so there is no inspection and management.

Bui Thi Hoa, in Lac Thinh commune said her son is currently studying at Lac Thinh primary school, which was built in 1998. The school has hundreds of students but it has only one semi-permanent toilet and one temporary toilet with a total area of more than 20 sq.m.

Parents are very concerned about this situation because many schools do not have toilets.

According to survey data at main schools, there are still four schools that have no toilets for students; and three others have no toilets for teachers.

Bui Huy Trong, deputy head of the district’s Education and Training Division, said the lack of standard toilets is a problem in many schools in Yen Thuy district. It is necessary to build 82 new toilets and upgrade 32 others in the coming time, he added./.
