(HBO) - In recent years, in Hoa Binh city, the care and protection of children has made many positive changes. However, there are still the situations of children being injured in accidents, especially drowning accidents, and it needs more attention from the whole society.

Le Quy Don Secondary School (Hoa Binh City) has been organizing seminars to guide students the skill in drowning prevention and control.

There were tragic incidents of 8 students drowning in 2019, 1 student of grade 11 drowning in 2020, or early in the summer of 2021, there was also a drowning accident that caused 1 student's death. Those are the tragic accidents happening in the recent years in the city, which are the alarm bells for the whole society. Ms. Nguyen Nam from Tan Thinh ward shared: "We have 1 child studying in the 6th grade and 1 child studying in the 2nd grade. Every summer, the whole family likes going swimming in the river, we are fully equipped with the life jackets, I am always careful to follow my two children. However, sometimes I still see some children being subjective, swimming without life jackets, which is very dangerous”.

According to the functional authorities, the cause of water drying is the lack of the healthy playgrounds for children, so that they look for ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, spontaneous bathing beaches for swimming, when they lack the skills for drowning prevention, and there is a lack of the family management and supervision. Especially, it is the time when there is outbreak of Covid-19 again, and students start their summer vacation. When playing, the children are often subjevtive, neglecting to ensure the safety for themselves and their friends. Moreover, Hoa Binh city is located along Da River, hiding many dangers for children. Summer vacation is the most common time for drowning accidents.

Over the past time, Hoa Binh City People's Committee has directed the departments, agencies, mass organizations, People's Committees of the communes and wards to implement the methods to prevent and control accidents, injuries, drowning and harming children. They include mobilizing the participation of the associations, the mass organizations and the people in detecting, monitoring and warning areas at risk of accidents and injuries, especially the areas at risk of drowning for children. They have reviewed and arranged the barriers and the danger warning signs at dangerous ponds, lakes, rivers, streams and the deep - water areas.

Ms. Tran Thi Bich Huyen, the Head of the Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs of Hoa Binh City said: In order to promptly prevent drowning accidents for children, especially during the summer vacation and the period of isolation due to Covid-19 pandemics, it is necessary to have contributions from the families, the schools and the local authorities. It is important to continue disseminating, propagating and educating children and the community about the skills for drowning prevention and control. It is also necessary to create healthy playgrounds for children. The families and the schools need to closely monitor and educate children about the risk of drowning, swimming skills, and skills to handle emergencies.
