Welcoming his Vietnamese counterpart to visit Czech, the host PM and PM Phuc inspected the honour guard during the welcome ceremony.

After the welcoming ceremony, the two PMs led the high-level delegations of the two countries to begin their talks, in which they discussed the focus of cooperation between the two sides in the future.

The visit by PM Phuc to the Czech Republic has an important meaning, as it is the first exchange at the PM level between the two sides in 12 years, taking place before the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (February 2, 1950-2020).

The European nation, with a population of over 10 million, has recognised the local overseas Vietnamese community (about 70,000 people) as one of its ethnic minority communities.

Since the 65th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations in 2015, the good traditional relationship between Vietnam and the Czech Republic has continued to develop in all fields.

Bilateral trade has recorded significant developments. During 2014-2018, the figure increased by 68.47%, from US$697 million in 2014 to US$1.2 billion in 2018.

Last year, Vietnam was the 36th largest trading partner among more than 200 partners of Czech. Regarding exports alone, Vietnam was the 28th largest exporter to the Czech Republic. Currently, Vietnam is also one of the 12 priority trade markets for Czech.
