A 2-km railway connecting Sa Pa Town in the northern mountainous province of Lao Cai and the cable car station to Mount Fansipan was put into service late last week, becoming the country’s longest mountain railway.

Developed by Sun Group, the two-carriage train, designed by Swiss cable manufacturer Garaventa, can travel at a maximum speed of 10 meters per second and carry 2,000 guests per hour.

Departing from MGallery Hotel in the northern mountainous town, the train helps shorten the travel time from 20 minutes by car to only four minutes, and allows tourists to take a panoramic view of the mountainscape, according to Sun Group.

When reaching the Mount Fansipan cable car station, travelers will continue a cable car ride over the Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range to get to Mount Fansipan, known as "the Roof of Indochina” at 3,134 meters above sea level.

Sa Pa is a famous travel destination in Vietnam thanks to its year-round cool climate and picturesque terraced rice fields.

Sapa has been listed as the best choice for a wonderful vacation of the year by TripAdvisor users while the US travel site www.thrillist.com has recommended it as once-in-a-lifetime place for backpackers.
