(HBO) - Thanks to good control of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tan Lac district has come up with plans to expand green (safe) zones, gradually restore supply chain and trade activities, especially food and farm produce.

With food purchased from local farmers and agricultural cooperatives, youths and socio-political organisations donated 1,500 meals for residents staying in concentrated quarantine establishments and those working in the establishments in the locality.

Chairwoman of the district Women’s Union Bui Minh Hong said with the spirit of solidarity to help deal with difficulties in farm produce sale, the union called on its officials and members to buy safe vegetables from Quyet Chien cooperative amid the pandemic. On the first day after the appeal was made, over 2 tonnes of farm produce were sold, easing difficulties for the farmers.

The fourth COVID-19 outbreak disrupted the chains for farm produce sale, making it hard for cooperatives and farmers to sell products. The district's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development actively sought measures to help farmers sell them as soon as possible, such as utilising social media such as Zalo, Facebook to popularise farm produce, and stepping up sales via e-commerce platforms.

To create favourable conditions for traders to buy and transport farm produce, authorities of communes and townships have quickly issued permits to those meeting necessary conditions to travel among communes in district and among districts. In particular, the district also assigned officials to be in charge of linking proucers and buyers for each type of agricultural product. The district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development worked with departments and agencies to connect businesses and traders in and outside the district to facilitate farm produce sale.

As a result, around 1,000 tonnes of farm produce have been sold, including citrus fruits, cattle and poultry meat and vegetables. Though prices of farm produce fell sharply compared to pre-pandemic level, it was considered a great effort of the district to ease difficulties faced by farmers.

Head of the district Department of Agriculture and Rural Development Vu Manh Thang said over 1,600 tonnes of farm produce are expected to be harvested between now and the year’s end. In the near future, the local agriculture sector will ask provincial departments and agencies to help the locality market and sell its farm produce in nearby areas and shopping outlets in and outside the province. First of all, local citrus fruits like oranges, mandarins and pomelos will be put on sale via retail channels and e-commerce platforms of VNPT and Viettel, because the harvest season of those fruits has begun./.
