(HBO) – The provincial Farmers' Union in collaboration with its chapter in Tan Lac district on February 10 launched a tree planting festival in response to the government’s call to grow 1 billion trees across Vietnam and a local campaign called "Farmers’ trees.”
About 5,000 seedlings are presented to Farmers' Union members in Dong Lai commune (Tan Lac).
At the ceremony, the provincial Farmers' Union launched an emulation campaign, calling on all its chapters to raise awareness of the meaning of the tree planting festival and the long-term benefits of tree planting and heighten the sense of responsibility in forest protection and prevention of illegal deforestation.
The planting tree festival forms part of a series of events to observe a tradition of growing new trees every spring initiated by late President Ho Chi Minh.
Some 300 giant crape myrtle and 2,000 acacia trees were planted in Dong Lai commune after the launch.
The provincial Farmers' Union took the occasion to present five bicycles for poor students and 25 gift packages to union members from difficult backgrounds in the commune, worth a total of 20 million VND. The authority of Tan Lac also presented 10 gift packages to needy farmer members./.
