To improve the cultural and spiritual life of the elderly, the associations for the elderly at various levels in Hoa Binh province have created many interesting and meaningful activities, attracting the participation of a large number of old people. These activities provide opportunities for them to improve both their physical and mental health, enabling them to live happily and healthily.
Competition on the National Target Programme for Rural Development attracts the participation of a large number of the elderly across the province.
At the beginning of December, a competition on the National Target Programme for Rural Development, organised by the provincial Association for the Elderly, became a popular event, attracted the participation of a large number elder people from the intergenerational self-help clubs across the province. It was carefully planned and skillfully staged, aiming to highlight the responsibilities and roles of the elderly in building new-style rural areas and civilised urban areas. The competition also contributed to enhancing the cultural and spiritual life of the elderly, as well as effectively popularising the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws to the people. At the end of the contest, Tan Lac district’s Association of the Elderly won the first place for their outstanding performances.
The province currently has 151 associations of the elderly with over 124,000 members, and over 1,600 clubs of various types, attracting more than 40,000 members. These clubs are established to engage in various activities such as singing, dancing, and health exercises.
In 2024, the associations at all levels have proactively advised local Party committees and authorities to develop plans to implement criteria related to the care for and promotion of the role of the elderly. Notably, 250 cultural and artistic exchange events, and a lot of tournaments in volleyball, table tennis, folk dancing, and health exercises have been held, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere for senior citizens.
In addition, they have proactively coordinated with local Party committees and authorities to create conditions for nearly 8,000 elder people to visit historical sites in the province and neighbouring localities; and maintained meetings to share experiences and creative methods in building strong associations.
Bui Tuan Hai, President of the provincial Association of the Elderly, affirmed that enhancing the cultural and spiritual life of the elderly is one of the key tasks in ensuring the care for them and the promotion of their role. The established clubs have become places for socialising, exchanging, and engaging in health activities that are necessary and beneficial for senior citizens. In the coming time, the association will continue to mobilise resources to build recreational spaces for the elderly, as well as organise competitions, cultural programmes, and sports activities, so as to help them improve their physical health, enhance their cultural life in the community, and contribute to the successful implementation of local socio-economic development tasks.
