(HBO) – In 2022, Hoa Binh’s sustainable poverty reduction programme has focused on minimising relapse, ensuring social welfare and improving living conditions and incomes of locals, creating favourble conditions for the poor to access basic social services.

Under the multidimensional poverty standards, the province currently has 34,029 poor households and 23,388 others living near the poverty line.

The province has issued many decisions and plans to support the poor and ensure that no one is left behind. It has set aside over 13.6 billion VND (547,503 USD) to provide support to poor households in the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.

According to the Resolution released at the 27th provincial Party Congress, Hoa Binh aims for 2.5-3% reduction in the rate of poor households each year in the 2020-2025 period.

By the end of 2022, the province expects that the rate falls to 12.99-12.29% from 15.49%, while all the households living near and in the poverty line can access soft loans for production, and all the households receive support to join health insurance.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyen Van Toan said that in order to complete the goals, the province will continue to roll out various measures, including speeding up the development of infrastructure system in communes facing difficulties, diversifying livelihoods and multiplying effective poverty reduction models.

At the same time, the province will support poor households in production, vocational training and housing.

It will also strengthen communications to enhance public awareness of poverty reduction and popularise the movement to support the poor, while increasing soft loans and supporting the needy to access the loans, assisting students from poor households in tuition, and effectively implementing health insurance policies for poor people and those from ethnic minority groups, he said.

The official added that along with the central and local budget, the province will mobilise resources from organisations, individuals, agencies and localities and the whole community to implement poverty reduction policies.
