(HBO) – Leaders of Da Bac district in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh have received aid from benefactors for overcoming natural disaster consequences at a ceremony in Hanoi.

The event was attended by Tong Thi Phong, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly; Do Van Chien, Minister-Head of the Government’s Committee for Ethnic Affairs; Le Thi Nga, Head of the NA’s Judiciary Committee; Nguyen Thanh Hai, Head of NA’s Committee for People’s Aspiration; Tran Dang Ninh, Deputy Secretary of the provincial Hoa Binh Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, among others.

Da Bac district was the most severely damaged locality in Hoa Binh province in recent floods and downpours. According to the latest statistics, the disaster left six dead and five others missing. Total damage was estimated at 250 billion VND. The district’s administration and people are making joint efforts to overcome the aftermath of floods. However, local people have faced a lot of difficulties due to huge losses in humans and property. Up to 211 households were evacuated. Many households are living in temporary resettlement areas.

At the ceremony, NA Permanent Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong expressed her sympathy with affected people in the province in general, and in Da Bac district in particular. She also thanked the donors for their support and urged Hoa Binh province and donors to continue providing support for affected people to help them overcome flood consequences.

Hoa Binh province’s authorities need to ensure sufficient food and shelters for the affected people, particularly those whose houses were swept away, while continuing addressing consequences of floods and heavy rains, and mobilising all possible resources to search for the missing.

Scientists will be sent to help the province review and handle landslide-prone and resettlement areas to ensure stable lives for locals, she said.

On behalf of local leaders and people, Ninh extended his gratitude to leaders of the Party, State, Government, ministries and sectors, businesses and donors, who have cared and join hands to help local people overcome the consequences of natural disasters. Numerous drastic measures have been implemented to help presidents in the province in general and in Da Bac district in particular to overcome damages and stabilise their lives, Ninh said.
