The Labour Federation of Cao Phong district has nearly 1,700 members at 50 grassroots trade unions. To fulfil the task of representing, caring for, and protecting the rights and legitimate interests of workers, trade unions at all levels have carried out concrete and practical activities.

Under the federation’s directions, grassroots trade unions have coordinated with local administrations, sectors, and organisations to effectively disseminate the policies and legal regulations relevant to workers’ rights, interests, and obligations. They have maintained and properly used the assistance funds to help disadvantaged members. They have also joined hands with employers to ensure the implementation of policies for workers such as salary, maternity leave and sickness allowances, annual leave, and payment for extra work.

Over the last tenure, trade unions in the district have mobilised resources from philanthropic organisations and donors to present more than 300 gifts worth over 180 million VND (nearly 7,400 USD) to disadvantaged workers on the occasion of the Lunar New Year and the Workers’ Month. They have also coordinated with the Cao Phong branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to give guidance to eight workers to borrow over 371 million VND from the National Employment Fund.

In addition to caring for the material and spiritual lives of workers, the district Labour Federation has teamed up with relevant parties to present 100 lifebuoy backpacks to students in Thung Nai and Binh Thanh communes, along with 340 gift packages worth more than 220 million VND to poor and underprivileged students. In coordination with socio-political organisations, the federation has held entertainment activities and presented many rewards totalling over 250 million VND to workers’ children who have high academic results on the occasion of the International Children’s Day (June 1) and the Mid-Autumn Festival.

Hoang Thi Phuong Lan, President of the Cao Phong district Labour Federation, said trade unions at all levels have pressed on with reforming and diversifying activities; increased communications to promote workers’ political mettle, professional skills, working style, and sense of discipline; and learned about their opinions and aspirations to propose solutions and policies benefiting workers.
